This topic KEEPS on coming up for us! I think it's safe to say that we've all heard the expression 'live like it's your last day', yet there are SO many things that prevent us from actually doing this.
We know that we ALL will die at some point, and few of us know how or when our time will come.
As I grow older, I'm more mindful of my health as creaky bits of my body gently (or harshly!) remind me that I'm either doing too much or not enough.
If I lived today like it was my last and then it wasn't my last, I'd probably have a heart attack with a week! In fact, one episode of 'Casualty' (UK) included a middle-aged man who was waiting for a heart donor. He didn't believe he'd be lucky enough to find a match so he 'lived it up' and spent all his money and ran up debts on credit cards believing he wouldn't be held responsible because he'd be dead. When he came around after receiving a successful 'eleventh hour' heart transplant, he just wept.
It's true that today we are the oldest we've ever been and are also the youngest we'll ever be, yet just how much 'living it up' can we do to not become irresponsible? I guess there is no right answer to this question because the time of our death may have nothing at all to do with the way we've lived our life.
Perhaps the real message here is to be calm & crazy, to love and to laugh, because the only thing any of us truly has is this moment in time right now. Let's make our moments count!
